Join us for an evening of Indian classical music at the Salt Spring Centre of Yoga.

Vocalist Akhil Jobanputra, joined by the Tihāī Ensemble, will present a concert rooted in the living traditions of Hindustani music. Through expansive rāgas, intricate rhythms, and spontaneous improvisation, the musicians create an immersive listening experience that unfolds slowly and meditatively.

The Artists

Akhil Jobanputra – Vocal

Akhil Jobanputra is a young vocalist, educator, and curator of Indian classical music. Featured as one of CBC’s “30 under 30” Canadian classical musicians (2024), he performs internationally and studies under Dr. Pandit Arun Dravid and Pandit Arijit Mahalanabis.

His music spans several traditions of Hindustani vocal music, including Dhrupad and Khayal, combining deep lineage with expressive improvisation.

Tihāī Ensemble

The Tihāī Ensemble is a Hindustani music group based in the Greater Vancouver region featuring:

  • Akhil Jobanputra – vocal
  • Mohan Bhide – harmonium
  • Hriday Buddhdev – tabla and pakhavaj

Their performances explore the dynamic interplay of melody, rhythm, and poetry, gradually building toward an emotional crescendo through improvisation.
