August 1, 2026
On Saturday, August 1, 2026, the Salt Spring Centre of Yoga welcomes Deepak Ram, internationally celebrated bansuri master, composer, and recording artist, for a special evening concert as part of the Music for Peace series.
The bansuri, a bamboo flute with ancient roots in the Indian classical tradition, is known for its deeply expressive and meditative sound. In the hands of a master, it becomes a vehicle for both stillness and joy , carrying listeners through the subtle landscapes of raga, rhythm, and improvisation.
Deepak Ram is a senior disciple of the legendary bansuri maestro Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, and his playing reflects decades of dedicated study within this lineage. At the same time, his musical journey has expanded across genres and cultures. Drawing from Indian classical music, jazz, blues, and flamenco, his performances create a unique and evolving musical dialogue that resonates with audiences around the world.
Deepak’s work has received international recognition, including a South African Music Award (SAMA) for Best Instrumental Album for his recording Searching for Satyam. He has also collaborated with a wide range of artists, contributing to albums by Juno Reactor (featured in The Matrix: Revolutions soundtrack) and David Sylvian, among others.
For this intimate concert at the Salt Spring Centre of Yoga, listeners are invited to experience the bansuri in its full expressive range — from contemplative raga exploration to vibrant improvisational interplay.
The Music for Peace series brings musicians from diverse traditions to the Centre to share music that uplifts, connects, and inspires.
